Traces
Traces are made in an application to make it possible to look into the application while it is
in operation and gain insight into its ”internal life”. This insight is a great help during
application failures and is in some cases crucial to be able to find the error.
A trace is bound to a
activity,
which makes it possible to generate a trace for an activity across several logical and physical layers.
This means that all layers that use UptoLog’s trace function provide trace information to the unified
trace of the whole activity.
The insight an overall trace gives can be used during application failures with great advantage. Through
the overall trace it is possible to follow what happens in the activity until the error occurs. That
is to say what methods are called in what sequence and with what data across logical and physical layers.
Through the
UptoLog Search Server
it is possible to search traces and see all the details of each trace such as the trace texts, the source
of each trace element, server name, application, etc.
